Duane Petrus – Two suspects have been arrested in Botshabelo after they were found in possession of antiretroviral tablets that were stolen during a break-in at a local clinic.
Police spokesperson, Consolation Mokoale, says the men were arrested at a house in the town’s F-Section with the tablets worth R 250 000.
The break-in took place on 10 February.
The police suspects these ARVs are used as a drug and smoked along with a combination of other substances, the collective being known as “nyaope”.
Mokoale says it is further suspected that these criminals sell the tablets to local drug dealers.
She added that there have been other similar incidents.
“At the beginning and the end of last year, two clinics were broken into and the suspects also stole ARV tablets,” she says.
Mokoale added that the police suspect more people may be involved and will be looking to make more arrests soon.
The two men will appear in court tomorrow.
