Two competitions await Martie du Plessis

Bloemfontein – The Martie du Plessis netball team is the LSEN league winners in the Free State and five of their players form part of the provincial team that will take part in the All Ages Tournament in Margate, KwaZulu Natal.

In the tournament which will take place from 29 June to 04 July, the team will represent the province after winning the LSEN League for the third consecutive year (2012-2014).

The team is a combination of five players from Martie du Plessis School, one from Böhmer School (both Bloemfontein schools), two from Orion in Welkom and two from NJ Heyns in Kimberley.

“In the LSEN league, we play against various schools in the Free State,” Lynmari Brink, the school’s Netball Organiser, told Courant Sport.

“So when we’re done with the trials, you get the Northern District winner and the Southern District winner; almost like Southern Free State and Northern Free State,” she added.

Both winners competed against each other and Martie du Plessis, the Southern District winners, played against Northern District winners (Orion School), where they won the match 11-0.

Following this, the local school’s netball team will then partake in the South African National Schools Tournament to be staged in July, where they will be representing the Free State Province again, but as one school.

The date and venue for this tournament is yet to be confirmed.
