Tatane’s widow to be given a second house on Wednesday in Meqheleng outside Ficksburg. Setsoto Local Municipality Mayor Tshidiso Jakobo says Rose Tatane will receive a second home which she will stay with her two children.
He says the first house that she received from the Free State province after her husband Andries Tatanes’s death was meant for her and his parents in honor of his memory.
“She lives with small two children and the whole world knew that the incident that took place at that time was horrible and dramatic. We felt that as government and in partnership with the SABC to say we give something to that family particularly the mother and kids,” says Jakobo.
Andries Tatane died on April 13 2011, after police shot him with rubber bullets and batons during a service delivery protest in Ficksburg. On 28 March the seven police officers accused of Tatane’s death were acquitted. Rose Tatane is said to have joined the ANC volunteers for the upcoming national elections.
