REFILWE MEKOA

Northern Cape Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs MEC Alvin Botes say there is no crisis at the Sol Plaatje Municipality.

His spokesperson Gamiem Abrahams says however Botes is concerned of the ongoing dispute situation. Abrahams says a task team will be established on 3 September and they will report back their findings after a month. He says once the report has been received, Botes will take action if it is required.

“The municipal workers have two grievances that they highlighted. One being contract workers and the second one relates to the wage curve. The task team will comprise of the officials from the department and the municipality and they will be finalized by next Thursday where they will be fully operational,” he says.

Abrahams says there is concern to the sustainability of contract workers within the municipality and the task team will work towards finding a lasting and workable solution. He says there is a special request to the members of South African Municipality Workers Union (SAMWU) not to obstruct the work of the task team.
