Suspect to appear in court for attempted murder of girlfriend


A 28-year-old-suspect will appear in the Ventersburg Magistrates Court for the attempted murder of his girlfriend. The 25-year-old woman sustained multiple stab wounds after being attacked with a knife.

According to a statement by the office of the Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, the incident happened at about 13:00 on 21 January 2020 near Caltex Garage in Mmamahabane in Ventersburg.

According to the statement it is alleged that prior to the stabbing and arrest, a 28-year-old male was following the victim who was walking with her colleagues. He requested to talk to her while her colleagues continued walking. The next moment the victim was heard screaming and the suspect was then seen running away, leaving the victim lying on the ground bleeding.

When Police officials arrived at the scene, a knife was shown to the police by a witness who saw the suspect throwing it away. Paramedics were called, attended to the victim who was transported to a hospital. Preliminary investigation ensued leading to the arrest of the suspect and his blood stained clothes seized for further investigation.

An attempted murder case was opened by Ventersburg SAPS members. The suspected perpetrator who is alleged to be the boyfriend of the victim, has been charged and will appear at Ventersburg Magistrates’ Court on the 23 January 2020.
