The Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, has shared the results for their SRC 2022/23 elections in Bloemfontein, where it was revealed that Sasco will be the new office bearer for the 2022/23 academic year.
According to the statement released by the university, the results were audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) – a reputable audit firm that was employed to ensure that the elections ran fair and smoothly.
Among the student political parties contesting for various positions, were the South African Student Congress (Sasco), the Revolution Movement, and the Independent Movement.
Responding to the news of their victory, Thabo Moopela, the newly elected SRC President, said that the feeling is overwhelming but that he is content that the students participated in their numbers.
“As Sasco, we are grateful for this opportunity, we are happy with the outcome and are ready to serve and re-pave this path for our next generation,” he continued.
Speaking on the importance of student elections, Dr Sally Dzingwa said that the elections are important because student leaders have a critical role to play in the stability of the institution.
The Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Mr China Kokoana, said that they have opted to use the services of PwC to ensure a fair process. He also mentioned that there will be by-elections for positions that were not contested.
Prof. Alfred Ngowi, CUT’s Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal, welcomed the news and congratulated the incoming office bearers, Sasco, for their unmatched victory and for showing eagerness to lead.
