Following the latest stories on the Philip Saunders Holiday Resort located outside Bloemfontein which allege the luxury resort is not open for business, provincial MEC of Public Works and Infrastructure Sam Mashinini says it is open for hire but their responsibility is to ensure the upkeep of the location and not the bookings and running of the resort.

Meanwhile the provincial department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs say from their information the resort is not closed and never has been.

The 160million project is now a luxury centre with accommodation, conference facilities and numerous outdoor activities. Reports reveal the resort has been abandoned close to five years after its major renovations in preparation for the 2010 World Cup.

According to the department of Tourism the Resort is currently under Rantshwareng Group and they manage the day-to-day running of the resort.

In response to reports that government officials utilise the resort without the proper permission, the department responded with, "No government official uses the resort without permission to the best of our information."
