An off-duty sergeant in the small town of Clocolan in the Free State recently nabbed a 25-year-old suspect who is suspected of murder and carjacking.
The incident took place on Monday 23 November 2020 at around 09:00 when the sergeant received information about a suspicious vehicle that was found abandoned in a street in Hlohlolwane. According to police spokesperson, Colonel Thandi Mbambo, the sergeant responded quickly and drove to the scene in his private vehicle where he then managed to arrest the suspect who was inside the vehicle.
The suspect was found with a blood-stained knife in his possession and his clothing full off blood stains.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was hijacked from Pimville in Gauteng, where the owner was stabbed with a knife and died at the scene.
The 35-year-old deceased was robbed of his vehicle, cellphone, identification card, bank cards, clothing and cash,” says Mbambo.
The suspect was detained and charged with murder and carjacking and appeared before the Clocolan Magistrates court yesterday.
