Miss South Africa 2017, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was the victim of an attempted hijacking on Wednesday June 7. Sun International have confirmed that the incident happened on Jan Smuts Avenue, near the Hyde Park Shopping Centre in Hyde Park Johannesburg.
Nel-Peters was approached by three armed hijackers. She managed to exit the vehicle and a good Samaritan came to her aid and drove her away from the scene. Her car and handbag were later recovered at the scene by a security company.
The police are investigating the incident further. Nel-Peters is shaken by the incident but unharmed.
