REFILWE MEKOA
Free State Education MEC outlined plans he will implement though he tabled a figureless budget vote speech.
Tate Makgoe’s speech didn’t state out amounts on how much the department will be spending on the current financial year. He addressed his budget vote speech in Bloemfontein, at the beginning of the week. Makgoe explained that he didn’t see the need as the amounts of each department were already tabled by treasury MEC Elzabe Rockman.
He said they received more than R11 billion and decided to review the budget.
“We are staying within the budget and we will reprioritise. Therefore, it wasn’t necessary for me state out certain amounts that we would use for various projects. The structure of that budget was informed by previous priorities and now after elections we have set new priorities. Most of the projects that were presented in the budget speech are improved projects,” said Makgoe.
Makgoe added that he will restructure the organisation in order to curb some of the challenges they face.
