Free State Health MEC, Monyatso Mahlatsi, will be at the Manapo Regional Hospital on 26 July to find sustainable solutions and lead an intergovernmental effort to prohibit the devastating effects of water and electricity outages.
According to the spokesperson of Health, Mondli Mvambi, the MEC will use the commemoration of Mandela Month to physically shut off illegal water connections that interfere with reliable water supply to the reservoirs of both Manapo and Elizabeth Ross Hospitals.
“Already, preliminary efforts have led to plugging off water leaks within the hospital which accounts for significant amounts of water loss in the area,” Mvambi mentioned.
He further mentioned that Qwaqwa has had challenges with both water and electricity supply for the longest of time, even though these are essential resources that are critically required to manage efficient and sustainable quality health care, to suppress the inevitable proliferation of infections in a healthcare setting.
“As a sign of an early breakthrough, the intergovernmental relations arrangement is already working on isolating health facilities from frequent power and water outages,” Mvambi concluded.
