Magashule plans to limit tenders

REFILWE MEKOA

Premier Ace Magashule plans to limit the tender process in the Free State.

Magashule says results of irregular expenditure are caused by the government not following proper processes. He says most tender calculations are irregular and they have told the Auditor and General about their plans. Magashule was speaking at the legislature meeting in Bloemfontein where Madonsela was sharing her observations.

Wednesday was Madonsela’s last day on her nationwide campaign that had started in June. Magashule believes cutting tenders will minimise corruption.

“The second thing about the issue of cutting tenders is that we have to be advised legally before proceeding. We want to empower cooperatives and there is no legislation. We have also raised it with the national government. We are and we have done a lot with cutting the middle man. In the next two weeks you will see implementation,” says Magashule.

Madonsela says she supports Magashule’s plans as he says he will only cut out unnecessary tenders and not all of them. She says the tender system currently cripples service delivery. And at times the government has no control over it.
