GALOOME SHOPANE It shouldn’t be very hard for government to deliver proper health services. These are the words of Treatment Action Campaign’s(TAC) Marcus Low.
Speaking ahead of the International World AIDS Day on December 1, Low says there has been some progress in the plight and fight against HIV/AIDS, but there’s still a long way to go.
He says for citizens to make sure that the health system works, politicians need to be kept accountable.
“If you go to the clinic and there is no medicine, you mustn’t just accept it. You must complain and organise and find out what’s happening. We must really start holding people accountable, we too easily accept if they tell us we must come back tomorrow,” he says.
According to Business Day Live, the Free State is the hardest hit province in the country, with 54% of surveyed facilities reporting antiretroviral (ARV) or TB drug shortages. The North West had the lowest prevalence, at 4%.
