Government employees will no longer be allowed to do private businesses with government.
This is according to Free State Public Works MEC, Sam Mashinini during his budget speech address in parliament, Bloemfontein, this week. He said his department’s total budget allocation for this financial year is R140 000 billion. Public Works Infrastructure including works and property functions receives the biggest slice of approximately R1 billion while the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) will receive around R178 000 million.
Mashinini clarified that the budget fell short of the targeted R148 billion they needed. He said the decrease in the maintenance budgets of departments will lead to various departments only focusing on minor maintenance instead of scheduled maintenance work. Meanwhile DA member Leona Kleynhans said Mashinini’s department is struggling to deliver.
She added that this will lead to schools, hospitals and clinics being unable to work due of outstanding electricity bills.
