Moshe Samuel Sekhobo, Free State author and poet, is the Avbob Poetry Competition award winner of 2019/2020.
The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) has congratulated Sekhobo in a statement for coming first in the Sesotho Language Category.
The Avbob Poetry Competition is a national competition which includes all 11 South African languages in all the 9 provinces; with 15,000 poets competing in all 11 South African languages.
The award ceremony was held on 6 August 2020. Sekhobo is a Bloemfontein-based author, mentor and a performance artist. His writings cover poetry, radio dramas and novels. He is a founder of Ya ka Nalane Arts Development Centre.
“I entered the competition to encourage fellow South Africans to cherish Sesotho poetry with its rich idioms. I am really glad and proud to bring this award home to the Free State Province, to enforce respect and love for the Sesotho language; and to actually make the Basotho proud of their language,” said Sekhobo.
