Growing up around entrepreneurs, 22-year-old Kutlwano Mokone knew that she had to one day own a business and with that vision in mind she founded Kay Gems.
Her passion for selling started in primary school where she would sell sweets to her peers, which was later no longer allowed, so she started selling to her teachers. Her business, Kay Gems, started out as a jewellery business back in 2019 and has now grown to sell home fragrance products such as reed diffusers.
Mokone has big plans for the future and has plans to tap into self-care products and extend her range with products such as bath salts and handmade soap. “My goals for the business are to extend the product line with more scents and to introduce the pamper products. I also want to develop our website and reach a greater audience through it,” said Mokone.
The young female entrepreneur said the simplicity of her products and unique fragrance scents keeps them going. “Home fragrance is just like décor and to ensure that we are welcome in homes, we take pride in the simplicity of the jars and the uniqueness of the scent itself,” said Mokone.
She believes in supporting local and sources some of her products locally. Follow @kay_ gems on Instagram and Twitter.
