Eskom Expo for Young Scientists is set to launch a nationwide series of Regional Science Fairs, where over 6,000 school learners will present innovative research projects in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation (STEMI).
Scheduled to take place across 35 regions, including Bethlehem on 26 July, Bloemfontein on 2 August, and Welkom on 16 August, the fairs will spotlight projects selected from school and district expos involving over 17,500 learners.
“These young scientists are the future problem-solvers,” said Mologadi Motshele, Acting CEO of the Eskom Development Foundation. “By investing in young minds today, we secure a sustainable, skills-driven South Africa tomorrow.”
Learners will have the chance to engage with peers, educators, and STEMI professionals, while also competing for awards such as Best Female Project, Best Energy Project, and Best Development Project.
Parthy Chetty, Executive Director of Eskom Expo, said the initiative provides learners with “a meaningful platform to further develop their research ideas and innovations.”
Outstanding participants will advance to the prestigious Eskom Expo International Science Fair (ISF), held from 6 to 10 October at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park. There, they’ll compete for bursaries, prizes, and potential selection for international science fairs.
Professionals across STEM fields are encouraged to volunteer as judges at regional fairs. Teachers and scientists can earn CPD points through SACE and SACNASP. Applications can be submitted at www.exposcience.co.za.
