South Africa is lagging behind in promoting female entrepreneurs and initiatives for businesswomen need to be more integrated and improved.
This is according to a survey of over 900 start-up entrepreneurs carried out by a school for entrepreneurship, Seed Academy.
Director of Seed Academy Donna Rachelson says a lot of businesswomen don’t know about the initiatives put into place for the development of their business and that is a gap that needs to be closed.
Rachelson says there needs to be more women mentors in the entrepreneurship sector in order to see growth in their businesses.
The survey profiled entrepreneurs who have been in business less than five years and some of their main problems included finding customers, raising funds and a lack of guidance.
“Female mentors should be encouraged to support other female entrepreneurs in the specific challenges they face as well as profiling more female in business,” she says.
