Failed cash-in-transit robbery outside Bloemfontein

No arrests have been made following an attempted cash-in-transit robbery this morning on the Petrusburg Road near De Brug outside Bloemfontein. Hawks spokesperson, S’fiso Nyakane, says a Nissan truck tried to push a security van off the road at about 03:30. The security van was travelling in the direction of Bloemfontein. According to him, a preliminary investigation shows the same Nissan truck was stolen in Gauteng earlier this month. He says the truck bumped the security van, with two security guards inside, on its rear right end after which the security van came to an abrupt standstill.

No shots were fired and according to Nyakane the driver did not approach the van but instead abandoned his truck and fled in a white getaway car. No money was stolen and no injuries were reported.

Nyakane appeals to anyone with information to contact their nearest police station. – Christal-Lize Muller
