The Drakensberg Boys’ Choir is searching South Africa for boys between the ages of 9 and 14 with potentially great singing voices to join the world’s best boys’ choir. This Saturday auditions will be held in Bloemfontein, in the hope of finding boys to join the school.
Worldwide there are a number of boys’ choirs, but the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir is unique in that it is the only choir school on the African continent being a boarding school that uses choral music as a major approach to holistic education.
The school is nestled in one of the world’s major heritage sites, the mighty Okhahlamba Mountain range, and provides not only training and performances in choral, contemporary and pop singing, but also African folklore music and choreographed movement. The school allows boys the opportunity to experience a vibrant outdoor life with cycling, swimming and hiking integral to the curriculum.
Bloemfontein auditions will take place at the Kopanong Church on Saturday 24 October from 10:00 to 12:00. Boys will not need to prepare anything for their audition.
Founded in 1967, the mission of the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School remains to prepare boys for life and leadership through excellence in music, academics, physical development and social enrichment, all in a Christian environment.
