Carols by Candlelight postponed

One of Bloemfontein’s favourite festive traditions, the SPAR OFM Carols by Candlelight, has been postponed to 2025. The annual event has been a cherished local event, but will not be taking place this year.

According to Central Media Group CEO, Nick Efstathiou, the decision to cancel the event was not made lightly. “Several factors contributed to this difficult choice,” he stated. “Organising an event of this magnitude requires extensive planning, resources, and coordination. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances and logistical challenges that have arisen, we are unable to secure the necessary arrangements to ensure a successful event of this magnitude.”

Several artists experienced scheduling conflicts and clashes with prior commitments, making it difficult to attend the 2024 Carols by Candlelight. Efstathiou highlighted these artists’ importance, saying: “Their contributions have always been central to the magic of Carols by Candlelight, and we would never want to host the event without their incredible talents.”

Other increased costs associated with planning the festive event also contributed to its postponement. “Balancing our commitment to providing a quality experience with the financial realities has proven to be a significant hurdle,” explained Efstathiou.

Carols by Candlelight continues to symbolise hope, unity, and the joy of giving, and OFM continues to encourage its listeners to carry that with them. “Let us not forget the importance of coming together, even in challenging times,” said the CEO.

Efstathiou further committed to updating the public on 2025 event developments, and welcomed any suggestions or ideas. “As we look to the future, we remain hopeful that we can find new and innovative ways to celebrate the festive season together,” he said.  “While we will miss the joy of gathering for SPAR OFM Carols by Candlelight in 2024, we are optimistic about the future and the potential for new traditions to emerge.”
