Mastering the art of reading the room and captivating an audience is what sets a local master of ceremonies apart. His passion for making a lasting impression in the local entertainment industry has made him a true jack of all trades.
Tebogo Nkadu, the CEO and founder of clothing brand Phuthulla Pelo, said his journey started when he was recognised for being a top learner in debating and public speaking in primary school. Today, the 35-year-old is a professional MC, vocalist, voice-over artist, event organiser, television and radio presenter, and brand and artist developer. He has also opened an eatery called Nkadu’s Taste in his grandmother’s backyard in Rocklands.
The multifaceted entrepreneur said he is grateful for all the opportunities that have come his way. “Sometimes it can be exhausting and one has to outsource, but all I can say is that the pie is enough for all of us, just go get your bite,” he said.
With hopes to acquire more gigs as an MC this year, Nkadu said it is important to understand the role of an MC. This could be done by doing enough research on how to host different events. His unique offering, he boasts, is his charisma and ability to engage with the audience.
His advice for aspiring MCs is that they keep up with current trends in events and entertainment to remain relevant and engaging. “Avoid over-acting or understating. Refrain from neglecting the audience by using inappropriate humour. Focus on your presentation.”
Recently, Nkadu was the talk of the town after he was an MC at a funeral of a local DJ, with people commending him on social media for a well-presented programme. “Give Tebogo his flowers”, was one of the common praises he received. This further sparked his drive to take on bigger events and occasions.
“This magnificent talent has opened doors for me through the years and nurtured me into TV and radio presenting. I have worked with local productions such as FS Online, One Free State TV, Central TV, Mangaung Live Stream, and City Radio, to mention a few throughout the years,” he said.
