The Tweespruit Crime Prevention Unit has confiscated 20 bags of dagga, weighing 160 kilograms with a street value of R 224 000, 00.
One suspect was arrested and a Chrysler Voyager that was used to transport dagga was confiscated.
Thabiso Muso, a Lesotho Citizen, made a brief court appearance before the Ladybrand Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
He faces a charge of dealing in dagga after he was arrested on Friday at about 23:15 on the N8 road between Tweespruit and Thaba Nchu.
The car was stopped and searched and 20 bags of dagga were found loaded at the back, with the rear seats removed.
Upon interrogation the suspect told the police that he was on his way to Thaba Nchu..
Tweespruit Crime Prevention Unit has since the beginning of this financial year confiscated about 500 kilograms of dagga and managed to arrest five suspects.
Their cases are still before court with one already finalised and the accused sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
The case has been postponed to 30 July 30 for a formal bail application and further investigation before the Tweespruit Magistrates’ Court and the suspect will remain in custody.
Capt Anna Mere, the Tweespruit Station Commander, says this is a warning to dagga smugglers out there that they will be watched like a hawk from the sky by the Tweespruit Police members.
