This year in the Selosesha Cluster Unit in Thaba Nchu several cops had died violently. Earlier this year a Thaba-Nchu cop shot and killed his wife following an augment.
Yesterday, hardly six months later, another cop from Section F in Botshabelo shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself. According to Free State Provincial spokesperson, Colonel Thandi Mbambo, the bodies of the cop and his wife were discovered earlier yesterday morning.
It’s alleged that after discovering a suspicious message on her phone, the deceased cop’s sister decided to rush to the house which he shared with his wife in Section F. In the couple’s bedroom, the devastated sister made a gruesome discovery.
Both her brother and sister-in-law were lying in a pool of blood and there was no sign of life. Without wasting time, the sister called the Boithuso police and alerted them.
On arrival the police found the 30 year old wife with three bullet wounds – two to the chest and one to the head. The 36 year old member, who was attached to the Provincial Trio Task Team, was found with a bullet wound to the head. An official firearm was also found at the scene.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lt-Gen Lebeoana Tsumane, as well as Police Management, reacted with dismay to the news of the passing of one of their police detectives and his wife in Botshabelo.
Tsumane conveyed his deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues on behalf of his office. “I also want to encourage our members to consult with the police’s Employee Health and Wellness officer, their local churches, or their parents if they are experiencing any challenges in their marriages, work or personal life,” said Tsumane.
