Rainfall predictions are favourable for the rest of the week in parts of the Free State, North West and Northern Cape. A forecaster at the Bloemfontein Weather Service, Sihle Kunene, says there is a 60% chance for rain in the eastern parts of the Free State and North West today and tomorrow. He says light showers are predicted for the rest of the Free State and western part of North West, which will clear up in the western part of the Free State including Bloemfontein by Friday. No rain is expected on Friday except in the Eastern Free State with a 30% chance for rain.
By Saturday the situation changes with a 30% chance of rain predicted for the whole Free State and North West while a more favourable 60% is predicted in these provinces on Sunday. Kunene says the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, including Kimberley, Kathu and Postmansburg can also expect light showers on Sunday afternoon.
There is a 30% chance for showers and thundershowers in these areas. In the eastern parts of the Free State it is the usual case where more showers and thundershowers are expected today and tomorrow, says Kunene. By the weekend there are some chance for rain in all three provinces.
Kunene says on Tuesday moist air and a tropical intrusion might lead to a more significant amount of rainfall across central South Africa. – Christal-Lize Muller
