The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI), through the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP), has been commended by the Free State Department of Health (DoH) for their project at the Pelonomi Hospital.

This EPWP project was to provide relief for the unemployed by providing them with the cleaning task at the hospital. The workers were tasked with ensuring that the yard was in a good condition.

As it is Women’s Month, most of the cleaners that were dispatched were women. “These women have taken this work opportunity to help them feed their families. Every opportunity counts and changes lives in every possible way. We appreciate them for what they are doing for us in keeping our hospital yard clean through good honest work. We are advocates of equal opportunity and equal pay for equal work,” said the Free State MEC for Health, Montseng Tsiu.

The DoH further commends the EPWP project for the good work they did with the cleaning of the yard.
