Settled, with Love brings warmth home for 13 families

This winter, a simple act of kindness by staff members and tenants at Mimosa Mall brought comfort, dignity and hope to 13 families through a heartfelt initiative called Settled, with Love.

The campaign saw individuals from across the shopping centre contribute in their personal capacities to help settle outstanding lay-by transactions at PEP in Mimosa Mall. Together, they raised R6 490, enabling 13 families to collect essential items, including baby clothing, school uniforms and warm winter wear for their children.

More than just paying outstanding balances, the initiative recognised the meaning behind every lay-by. For many families, a lay-by represents months of careful planning and sacrifice, with each payment made in the hope of providing for loved ones. “Rather than providing handouts, the initiative focused on helping families complete something they had already started. It was about preserving dignity, restoring hope and reminding people that they are not alone,” the organisers said.

The Mimosa Mall centre management team said the campaign was inspired by compassion rather than obligation. “We wanted to do something meaningful this winter, not as representatives of businesses, but as people. Every contribution, whether it was R50 or R1 000, came from individuals who wanted to help make someone else’s winter a little easier,” they said.

While the amount raised may seem modest, its impact extended far beyond its monetary value. For 13 families, it meant taking home clothing that may otherwise have remained on the shelves, easing financial pressure and ensuring children stay warm during the cold months. The initiative serves as a reminder that meaningful change often begins with ordinary people choosing kindness.

As the winter season continues, Settled, with Love stands as a touching example of how a caring community can make a lasting difference. “Sometimes the greatest gift is not giving someone something new. Sometimes, it is simply helping them bring home what was already theirs.”
