It was quite an awful start to the year for a local eatery as it burst into flames on New Year’s Day.
CD’s Pub and Grill in Monument Road, Bloemfontein, went into flames on Sunday afternoon.
Police spokesperson Peter Kareli says it is unclear as to how the fire began but investigations are already underway.
“For now we cannot say as to whether it was set alight deliberately or something wrong happened at the building. We are awaiting the results that we will be getting from our expert that will be coming down to Bloemfontein [on Monday] to inspect the burnt building.”
Police officers, fire trucks and emergency services and bystanders were on the scene and there were no reports of any casualties of the fire.
One bystander told Bloemfontein Courant the inferno began at around 13:00.
