Residents from Bloemfontein have been urged to exercise caution and be vigilant while driving in the city this morning.
This as videos, photos and voice notes are circulating on social media as the shutdown protest continues.
The protest currently happening in the city is being led by a group called the Mangaung Community Concern who are led by Themba Zweni and Lily Tsoeu. They are calling for the disbandment of the Mangaung Metro Council for reasons such as not being able to save the metro following its placement under administration.
According to a statement by the group, the Botshabelo counterpart has handed a memorandum to the president on 27 April 2021 where they were also raising the same issues.
It further says that Bloemfontein was once the City of Roses but today it’s a capital of potholes. “We can’t open our windows as the stench from raw sewage running on our streets is unbearable and we are no longer certain as to how long are we going to have water as the municipality owes BloemWater.”
A number of police officers are on the ground and are monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of people within Mangaung.
