AMCU President Joseph Matunjwa says it is not their place to preach to anyone about whether or not to attend today’s commemoration of the Marikana massacre.

He says the ANC, Num and others who have decided to boycott today’s official commemoration event have exercised their democratic right. He says Amcu remains hopeful today will provide a platform for a constructive message, healing of wounds and reconciliation.

Matunjwa says the struggle for empowerment of workers will continue going forward and that the captains of the mining industry must realise it is time to share with the workers. He says last year’s massacre changed the course of politics in South Africa.
