The University of the Free State said they have been tightening security measures on its Bloemfontein Campus for a while.
According to the university’s spokesperson Lacea Loader, the next phase is the access control on all five entrances of the main campus. She explained that the new duel-frequency cards will be implemented by 3 November this year and all visitors to the campus including staff, students, service providers and others will have to be in possession of the card.
“It is basically just to step up our security and safety for staff, students and also other visitors to the campus. We have been working for quite some time on this project,” she said.
Loader said various other security initiatives have also been implemented for the last couple years.
“This includes increase of vehicle and bikes patrols, upgrading of security monitoring and electronic security systems, red poles with panic buttons that we have installed around hostels and pathways which students can use as well as staff and visitors,” added Loader.
