Two get life for rape of 30 year old woman

Two men, aged 23 and 25, were sentenced to life imprisonment each by the Bloemfontein High Court for the rape of a 30-year-old woman near Soutpan.
On 7 October 2011 the victim was travelling from Bloemfontein to Soutpan on the R700 after she and her 12-year-old boy received a lift from a vehicle travelling in that direction. On arrival, near Soutpan, at about 18:00, the driver dropped them off near a broken down construction truck.
Because there were people standing around near the truck, the victim agreed and felt safe to be dropped there. After being dropped off, a group of men approached them and she gave her son the cell phone and instructed him to run to the nearby house and call for help.
Three other suspects chased the 12-year-old, robbed him of the cell phone and chased him away. The other group started assaulting the victim and dragged her to the back of the truck where they took turns raping her.
The victim managed to escape and stopped a vehicle that took her to Bayswater Police Station. Investigations were launched by Detective Sergeant Molebogeng Bosman from the Park Road Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, and five suspects were arrested after they were found in Virginia, Theunissen and Welkom.
Three of the five suspects were released after they could not be linked to the case. Two suspects, Ramasilo Petrus Mohapi (23) and Machesele Joseph Moloi (25), were found guilty of robbery and rape and were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Maj-Gen Piet de Wet, Cluster Commander of Park Road SAPS, lauded Cst Molebogeng Bosman for her selfless investigative work and ensuring that the two will not see the light of day anytime soon.
The general urged members of the public to stop the abuse of woman and children and engage in issues of moral regeneration in their communities.
