Three robbery suspects were swiftly arrested in Mirriam Makeba Street in the Bloemfontein Central Business Disitrict yesterday by members of the Park Road Crime Prevention Task Team.
According to a statement by the office of the provincial commissioner in the Free State, the task team held an observation over the possible attacks on unsuspecting and vulnerable victims drawing cash at ATMs in the city.
The team noticed three males closing in on a female shopper walking across the street. One suspect pulled out a knife while the other two grabbed and searched the victim.
“The police chased the suspects as they ran towards Hoffman Square. All of the suspects were arrested and the knife, as well as a Huawei 9SY cellular phone belonging to the 30-year-old victim from Brandwag, was recovered,” said Colonel Thandi Mbambo.
A case of common robbery was registered and the three suspects, aged between 27 and 36 will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday 22 June 2020.
