Three arrested for murder of Bloemfontein officer

The Hawks in the Free State have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Bloemfontein police officer, Ofentse Odirile Katlego Mokgadinyane.

OFM News reports that the 31-year-old police officer, who was gunned down at his home in Bloemspruit, was stationed as part of the Crime Intelligence Unit at the Park Road Police Station in Bloemfontein.

Hawks spokesperson in the Free State, Lynda Steyn, says the suspects forced open the back door of the house and opened fire on the constable killing him instantly.

She says an intelligence driven operation comprising members from various law enforcement units was on Monday established after they received information on the whereabouts of the suspects.

Steyn says three suspects between the ages of 22 and 29 were arrested after they were found with a gun, laptop and a wallet belonging to Mokgadinyane.

“Three suspects aged 29, 23 and 22 were arrested and were found in possession of a 9mm Norinco pistol, one magazine containing live rounds, an HP Laptop and a brown wallet belonging to the deceased. It was further established that the firearm seized was reported stolen in Henneman,” said Steyn.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Thursday, where they would face charges for murder, theft and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
