Siwelele and Usuthu in goalless draw

LEE KHOTLELE
Bloemfontein Celtic and Amazulu played to a 0-all draw in their Premier Soccer League (PSL) match at Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium in Botshabelo on Sunday afternoon.

The home side, fresh from their 2-1 victory over Witbank Spurs in the Nedbank Cup at the same venue, was looking for maximum points at home, especially against the side that was thrashed 4-1 by Wits in the same competition.

However, the visitors had other intentions. They crashed Maritzburg United 3-1 before beating Polokwane City 1-0 in their previous matches, and were looking for their third-straight win in the league to maintain their top eight spot.

Regardless of a draw, the Durban-based side remains on the sixth spot with 35 points while the Free State outfit drops to ninth with 33 points following Platinum Stars’ 2-1 victory over Maritzburg United.

In their next matches, Celtic host Platinum Stars while Amazulu entertain another Free State side, Stars, this coming weekend.

In other results, Black Aces crashed Ajax Cape Town 2-0 while Pirates stunned Swallows 1-0. At the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane City and Free State Stars played to a 1-all draw.

Elsewhere, Wits clinched a vital 1-0 victory over the struggling Arrows while Sundowns clinched a 2-1 victory over their neighbours, University of Pretoria.
