Sebokeng protester buried over the weekend

REFILWE MEKOA

A protester who was shot dead two weeks ago during a protest in Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg was buried last Saturday at his home in Meqheleng outside Ficksburg.

The Sedibeng District Municipality mayor Simon Mofokeng and Setsoto municipality mayor Tshidiso Jakobo addressed mourners and the deceased’s family at the funeral.

Mofokeng says both municipalities financially assisted the family with funeral arrangements. He insisted that the funeral will be led by the family as rumours surfaced that EFF members are not happy that one of their members will be buried by the ANC.

Mofokeng emphasized that the matter is not about a political affiliation.

“As far as we are concerned, our contribution is a contribution that is to a needy family and the family that indicated that they had a challenge to bury their loved one. About the political affiliation, that one is not an issue to us. Whether it should have been the ANC, PAC, Azapo or whatever party, our attitude is assisted that we have done due to the deceased who died from protesting,” says Mofokeng.
