Residents urged to prepare for 2026 local government elections

As South Africa prepares for the 2026 Local Government Elections, citizens are being encouraged to play an active role in shaping their communities through the democratic process.

The Electoral Commission will officially launch the national campaign for the upcoming elections on 27 May, marking the start of voter awareness and participation efforts ahead of the polls.

This occasion can be streamed on the IEC’s YouTube channel or Facebook Live from 11:00.
“The launch will showcase the Commission’s readiness, encourage active voter participation, reinforce the importance of free, fair, and credible elections, and unveil the national communication campaign,” IEC said.

Residents are encouraged to visit the IEC website to ensure their registration status. The Voter Registration Weekend will take place from 20-21 June 2026 from 08:00 to 17:00.
