President Cyril Ramaphosa has named Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe as the acting Minister of Police with immediate effect, the Presidency announced.
Mantashe will hold the position in an acting capacity until incoming minister, Prof. Firoz Cachalia, takes office at the beginning of August. Cachalia, who is set to retire from Wits University at the end of this month, will then assume the role permanently.
During this period, Mantashe will continue serving as Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources while overseeing the police portfolio.
