Eight children will have their dreams fulfilled by the Reach for a Dream Foundation, thanks to funds raised at a business breakfast on Friday. About R50 000 was raised in Bloemfontein so that children fighting life-threatening illnesses will be able to realise their biggest dreams.
Reach for a Dream’s Yolanda Maartens-Brown said that children’s dreams are full of imagination, whether they are as big as seeing Noah’s Ark, baking cupcakes for a day, or going to the beach for the very first time. “There are children who just want a bike. That is a symbol of freedom because it gives them a chance to get out of the hospital ward away from doctors and needles. We also do beautiful birthday themes with children’s favourite characters,” she said. Maartens-Brown expressed gratitude to the community of Bloemfontein for their support.
The room of guests were serenaded by Caroline-Grace before motivational speaker and businesswoman, Lynette Beer, took the stand to inspire. According to Beer, the 2018 National Ambassador of the South African Council of Businesswomen, dreams are bigger than the individual.
“Your dream is not just about yourself. It is also about using your abilities and talents to help other people. It is bigger than you,” Beer expressed. “A dream is the plan that God has for your life but in order to reach it, you need to have a goal. If you do not reach your dream, then you live your life in vain because you never got to have the fulfilment of God’s plan for your life,” she added.
Stephen Oliphant of African Bank stated that fulfilling the dreams of children was one of their aims. “We are involved because we want to make sure that the dreams of children come alive. With initiatives like these we are able to do that. As a corporate we want to take the hand of Reach for a Dream so they can fulfil their dreams as well,” he said. – Nomaqhawe Mtebele
