Police recovered vehicle after hijacking at Tempe

A 27-year-old woman was hijacked last night near the Tempe camp in Bloemfontein. The woman was driving a silver VW Polo around 20:30, when she noticed a white Toyota Etios following her. She was accosted by two unknown males at gunpoint whereby she was ordered out of the vehicle and the armed men drove away with her vehicle.

Swift police response led to the recovery of the vehicle two hours after the hijacking took place. The victim alerted the police and a look-out of the stolen vehicle was immediately initiated. The stolen Polo and the Etios, were spotted later in town by members of Parkweg Police Station who were conducting stop and search operations.

Two suspects aged 23 and 40 years, one being a member of the SANDF was arrested and is also linked to house robbery cases in Bayswater. Suspects will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate`s Court on Wednesday 14 March 2018 on charges of car hijacking.

The Cluster Commander of Park Road, Major-General Piet de Wet, appreciated the sterling work by Park Road Police for arresting the hijacker shortly after the incident. He also wishes to remind the motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving at night, particularly when stopping at the intersections, or entering and exiting the driveways. “Should you suspect that you are being followed, change your route or stop at a place where there are a number of people” he added.
