Police prayer service to be held

The police will host a national prayer day service next week in the Free State to provide employees an opportunity to participate in a mass prayer service for the safety of police in South Africa.

The theme of the service next Monday at 10:00 in Botshabelo, is, "Pray for a police official… preserve a nation."

Prayer services will be held across the country on the same day. This comes after national police commissioner, Riah Phiyega, declared September as police safety month. this year following the recent attacks on and killing of police officers throughout the country.

The national commemoration day that was hosted on September 7 commemorated these fallen heroes.

The purpose of the police safety month is to enhance awareness by police members on safety measures on and off duty, address compliance to national instructions, directives and standing orders as well as sharing specific safety measures and guidelines to enhance alertness and tactical response to crime scenes. Another purpose is to activate community support mechanisms to assist the prevention of attacks and murders of police members.
