The video shows two men approaching Mohapi’s vehicle as he sat in the car unaware that the suspects are about to fatally shoot him before pulling him out of the vehicle and driving off with it. The police spokesperson in the province, Stephen Thakeng, would earlier not state the names of the suspects in the murder or if they had any relation to the deceased.
The suspects in the murder case of Mohapi, who was at the time of his death Sibanye-Still Water mine’s Chief Safety Officer, will appear in the Bloemfontein High Court on Tuesday, 3 September. Three people were initially arrested last year, then a fourth suspect was later arrested in November last year, shortly after the murder.
It was rumoured that the fourth suspect was related to the deceased, however, the police did not state the names of the suspects. However, in the latest information provided by Thakeng, there at this stage only three suspects who have been arrested. It also remains unknown whether the trio was ever released on bail or remained in custody as Thakeng was not forthcoming in his responses to questions sent by OFM News on the matter.
“We will update you with all details later or before the date of the trial, after a thorough investigation was conducted,” Thakeng told OFM News in a written response to questions sent to him. Mohapi died on the scene after he was shot three times in his chest and twice in his arm. His vehicle was found abandoned in Steyn Street, Welkom.
