The University of the Free State (UFS) will be hosting a Winter Warmer Concert on Thursday, 28 July, to raise awareness of and collect donations for hungry students. It will be held in the Callie Human Centre from 16:30.
The Concert will take the form of an indoor picnic, with people coming together for a fun evening. According to Dr Nicholas Pearce, the HOD of Surgery at the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Concert derives from the idea of social responsibility.
“In the post Covid-19 period, the UFS has had many students who are unable to afford basic food stuffs. Often basic essentials are not covered by student bursaries leaving students hungry and struggling to perform at the academic level expected. With partners Life Rosepark Hospital and Sanlam contributing financially, all food collected on the evening will be given via the University’s No Student Hungry Office to students in need. The idea is to bring the University and the community of Bloemfontein together for a good cause. All are invited and no booking is needed – just bring along some non-perishable food as your entrance fee,” says Pearce.
The lineup for the evening includes performances by the Free State Youth Wind Ensemble – so bring your family, a blanket and food, and come and enjoy an evening guaranteed to warm your heart and soul.
