SABRINA DEAN – Municipal officials are hopeful that water should be restored to large parts of Bloemfontein later today after another leaky pipe left residents across the Metro high and dry the entire weekend.
Mangaung Metro spokesperson Qondile Khedama says the Municipal Manager met with the acting CEO of Bloemwater this morning to assess the situation and provide feedback. He says the situation has improved significantly:
"The main line has been fixed. At the moment we are trying to speed p the process of filling the reservoirs but because people have been without water for some days now we are struggling to get the reservoirs filled to capacity," he says.
Khedama sayspart of the challenge with filling the reservoirs is the limited flow rate, which cannot be increased much as this will then result in other problems. The other challenge is high demand. "Obviously once we start filling the reservoirs again consumption is high as a reult of the backlog but we are trying our level best," he says.
Khedama apologised to residents for the inconvenience and thanked them for their cooperation. He says officials are hopeful that the situation will be back to normal by the end of today.
Affected areas include Rocklands, Navalsig, Freedom Square, Pentagon Park, Langenhoven Park, Phase 2, and numerous other areas.
