Joshua Losper of the DA and COPE coalition has gone back to being the speaker of NamaKhoi Municipality.
The spokesperson of the Northern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance and Human Settlements Gamiem Abrahams says Lorenzo Faber, who was newly elected earlier this month, is no longer the speaker. This happens after Springbok residents closed down municipality premises a week ago.
Abrahams says the situation in Springbok is back to normal. He says municipal workers are back at work and the community has calmed down. Residents protested for more than two days against poor service delivery and alleged misuse of tax payers’ money.
Residents complained that the municipality should stop using its money for court cases because it cannot afford expensive legal battles. It is alleged that more than R1.3 million has already been spent by the DA and COPE coalition for taking the ANC to court.
