GALOOME SHOPANE Numsa secretary general in the Free State and the Northern Cape, Andile Zitho says they are satisfied with today’s turnout.
Zitho was present at today’s march in Bloemfontein and says they are extremely happy that their members responded to the call to march.
He says they handed their memorandum to Retail Motor Industry’s provincial representation who promised to take it to head office.
Hundreds of workers turned out for today’s march.
“We hope that this march has sent a clear message to employers, to say that the sooner they settle the strike the better,” says Zitho.
He adds that Numsa members “ are more determined to continue with the strike if they are not coming with a better offer in the table.”
The latest on the negotiations that started yesterday is that they have been rescheduled to Monday.
Zitho says this is because the employers’ offer has been rejected so they have gone to refresh their mandate.
He says another reason is that Numsa is holding its national executive committee this Saturday.
Zitho affirms that this rescheduling is by no means a breakdown in the negotiation process.
