Duane Petrus – No arrests have yet been made in connection with the Monday’s mall robbery and hijacking in Bloemfontein.
Four men hijacked a Mediclinic bakkie in an attempt to flee the scene of a business robbery nearby, just minutes before the hijacking took place.
Mimosa Mall spokesperson, Ilse Judeel, says the men robbed the company that regulates the Mall’s parking in the basement just after 08:00. She says the Mall’s security personnel met the robbers inside Spark Parking’s offices and gave chase after them.
Once they exited the mall, the robbers jumped onto an oncoming Mediclinic bakkie and hijacked it. About two shots were fired, at the security and the driver of the bakkie, but no one was injured.
She added that police were reviewing CCTV footage of the robbery.
Police spokesperson, Zweli Morolobedi, says the suspects used the bakkie as a getaway vehicle and managed to flee with an undisclosed amount in cash.
The bakkie was recovered moments later in Brandwag.
