More criminals off the streets of Mangaung

Twelve serial rapists have been successfully investigated and prosecuted and collectively been handed over 76 life sentences and 1409 years.
During a media briefing on the current state of policing in the province, the Free State’s Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major-General Solly Lesia, revealed that the police in the province have been focusing on family violence, child protection and sexual offences in their units for the past twelve months.
“Without any doubt we are confident that we dealt a huge blow to crimes affecting women and children. In all these cases the age group is across the board; children, young girls and women and very senior citizens being our mothers and grandmothers. Over and above these heinous acts in the area of Mangaung, some gang activities started mushrooming,” said Lesia.
During May 2017 until August 2017, Peter Swartz, Freedom Square and Namibia in the Mangaung area experienced cases of house robberies, house break-ins and murders, which where reported at Kopanong, Bloemspruit and Mangaung Police stations.
“These cases were centralised and investigated by our Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit. Seven members of BTK were arrested and charged, and later sentenced in the Bloemfontein High Court on 1 April 2019. With these gang members in prison for the past quarter, Mangaung has been a quieter place,” he concluded.
Gang related sentences:
• Monnapule Motloung – 18 years for murder; plus 3 years on Prevention of Organised Crime Act (Poca)
• Frank Sebotsa – 18 years for murder, plus 4 years on Poca
• Thabang Khuselo – 18 years for murder, plus 3 years on Poca
• Tebogo Sebotsa – 18 years for murder, plus 3 years on Poca
• Mojalefa Motloung – 6 years for housebreaking, 15 years for illegal possession of a firearm, 1 year for illegal position of ammunition, 3 years on Poca. Moltloung was already serving 25 years for house robbery.
• Nkareng Sediane –18 years for murder, 15 years for house breaking, 4 years on Poca
• Paseka Mabina – 18 years for murder, 3 years on Poca. – Seithati Semenokane
