Merging of two hospitals frustrates residents

REFILWE GAESWE

Petsana Residents Association from Reitz in the Eastern Free State said theyare  still waiting for Premier Ace Magashule’s response regarding the merging of Nketoana Hospital in Reitz with Phekolong Hospital in Bethlehem.

According to the association’s chairperson Majola Dumezweni, Magashule promised to give them feedback in August this year. He explained that Nketoana Hospital started operating strictly as a casualty ward in 2008. Dumezweni said the decision was taken without residents being consulted and they are frustrated as Phekolong Hospital is overcrowded.

“When we say casualty we imply that it only admits patients but there is no primary medical care. There are no doctors or nurses who can perform medical operations though they do admissions and then they transfer you to Phekolong. When we talk Phekolong we are talking about a hospital that is also catering for many towns around Bethlehem,” he said.
