“My circumstances do not make me what I am, they reveal who I have chosen to be.”
This quote by Wayne Dyer is the wisdom that the beautiful Margo Fargo (25), lives by. Fargo from Heidedal has been chosen as one of the Top 12 finalists for the Miss South Africa 2018 competition.
However, Fargo is not just a pretty face. She has a BSc. Consumer Sciences degree, she is the co-director of a non-profit organisation called the A&M Foundation, hair influencer for Shea Moisture South Africa, part-time model, part-time teacher and mentor.
Fargo says: “There are so many Miss South Africa winners who have certain attributes and qualities that inspire me. Each one possesses something different. If I were to pick one with whom I resonate the most, because of her upbringing, it would be Liesl Laurie. She is a go-getter and has shown how it is possible to turn setbacks into comebacks. She has inspired me and many others to not be defined by circumstances but rather by who we say we are.”
Fargo always had a dream to win the Miss SA crown – with her natural hair! She influences girls to be their natural self and her passion and zeal for the community make her the perfect ambassador for Miss SA. “I stopped using heat on my hair. If I remember correctly, I have been a natural for two and a half years, and I’m loving it,” she adds.
She has gone on this journey with winning aspirations and looking back is not an option. According to the Miss South Africa website, she said: “I want to be a part of this legacy of women who have challenged the status quo and have been a force to be reckoned with. I would use my role to tackle social challenges such as food insecurity and to work with the youth to help equip them for the future they desire through sustainable resources.”
A surprising fact you may not know about this all natural beauty, is that she grew up playing with her brother’s cars, climbing trees and chasing cattle. She only started wearing shoes when she started Grade 1. She said that she was never the pageant type of girl. “I was the nerd who only worried about homework instead of brushing her hair.”
Look out for Fargo at the 60th annual Miss South Africa crowning that will take place on 27 May 2018 at the Sun Arena Time Square.
